Creating Target Groups

Creating a target group enables you to apply testing or other actions to multiple applications at once.

A target group helps you manage activities such as the following:

  • Controlling user access to targets by target group
  • Filtering the DASHBOARD display by target group

Assigning a user to a target group allows that user to view and work with the target group. Once assigned to a target group, the user’s role permissions determine the specific actions they can take, such as viewing the target group or updating it.

When you assign a user to a target group, the user is automatically assigned to all the targets within the group. This means that when a user is assigned to a target group, that user’s roles apply to all the group's targets. For example, if a user assigned to the target group has been assigned a role called Dev Lead, and this role has Schedule Scan permissions, then that user can schedule tests on any target (or all targets) within the group.

For example, you might want to create a target group named “All Targets” and assign users to it to accomplish the following actions:

  • Enable users that have permission to filter the DASHBOARD display by the All Targets group.
  • Automatically assign those users to the targets in the target group.
  • Enable users that have permission to view target group information for the All Targets group.
  • Enable users that have permission to update target group information for the All Targets group.
  • Enable users that have permission to assign targets to and revoke targets from the All Targets group.
  • Enable users that have permission to assign users to and revoke users from the All Targets group.

  • Creating a New Target Group
You can create new test target groups from the TARGET panel.
